In Madagascar, small-scale fishermen struggle to sell their products

On the island of Madagascar, fishing guarantees the survival of more than 100,000 artisanal fishermen and their families. WWF Madagascar warned of the consequences of the COVID-19 epidemic on small-scale fishermen, stressing the need for urgent measures to help them sell their products and access markets, as well as sanitary measures for fish processing. "The suspension of fishing activities leads to significant loss of income," said Lalaina Rakotoinavo of WWF Madagascar. According to the Orange Madagascar news site, in some regions, the prices of fishery products have fallen to a tenth of the normal price.
